Welcome back to a new & exciting year with Stroke Recovery Burlington.   We are extremely overjoyed to say that 28 new members  have joined our chapter since we have come back to in person meetings in September of 2022.  Throughout the lockdown our chapter stayed active with zoom meetings each month.  I stayed in contact with the Halton/Peel Aphasia program, Wellness House, Hamilton/Burlington Stroke Network and the MOD After Stroke Programs.  A lot of it is just word of mouth from existing members.  We have had inquiries from our website as well as an interest  from our brochures.   MOD was also able to restart the JBH visitation program.   Please keep passing on how great an experience of our chapter can give you.

As our chapter has so many new members, we have decided at the September meeting we would like to go around to each table and have you  introduce yourself.   Are you a stroke survivor, caregiver, family member ?  How did you hear about our chapter and how long have you been a member ?  If there is enough time, we would love it if you could tell us what you did over the summer holidays.

I will be collecting the yearly family membership fee of  $25.  This covers all meeting lunches, our Festive Christmas lunch, and all events/outings that our chapter will be offering.  We accept cash or cheque payable to : March of Dimes Canada. In the memo field: SR Burlington Membership Fee.  I hear that  MOD is working on adding  e-transfers as a choice of payment.

Please let me know Yes I can attend or No I cannot attend  as we are continuing to order individual lunches from Marilu’s Market.

I’m so excited to see all of you on the 25th.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Hello Everyone

Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend before the hot humid weather arrives.

Our meeting on June 26th will be our last before we break for summer holidays. We will resume our monthly meetings on September 25th.

We will be combining our regular meeting with the celebration of the March of Dimes’s Step Up For Stroke fundraiser.   The total donations that we collect are split, 70% to our chapter & 30% to MOD’s After Stroke Programs.

I have acquired a special event parking permit for the north lot of the Lions Club.  There will be barriers set up so there will be lots of parking spots for everyone.

I have confirmation that 3 very special guests will be joining us .  Mayor Marianne Meed Ward,  MP North Oakville/Burlington Natalie Pierre and the Honourable MP Karina Gould.

Anyone who wishes to donate online, here is the direct link to our team.  You can choose a Team Member or the Whole Team to donate to.

Automatic tax receipts will be issued to your email.  Cash & cheque donation will be collected at the meeting.  MOD will issue tax receipts for anything over $20. It may take 4-6 weeks to process these  donations.

The online link will stay open until July 31St . Any cash or cheque donations after the 26th meeting can be mailed or brought in person to Debbie Butler    502-3055 Glencrest Rd, Burlington, ON, L7N 2H4  Cell:  (905) 599-8332  New St & Guelph Line area.

Please call for a mutual time to get together.

There is no pressure or obligation to donate money to our chapter.  Everyone is welcome to come and just celebrate with us.

The agenda is as follows :

12:00 - Arrival and collection of all cash/cheques/pledge sheets to Debbie Butler at the front table.

12:20 - Speeches from Andy Westcott then special guests

12:30 - We will cut the ribbon to commence a walk outside (optional) on the sidewalk around the small kids park then back through the north lot.

1:00 - Join us in a delicious lunch

There will be no 50/50 tickets for this meeting.

Please send me a quick note of YES  or NO for your attendance so we may order the correct number of lunches.

FYI  - Notices

 - Andy Westcott has booked a boat cruise up the 16 mile creek in Oakville/Bronte for mid September with a catered BBQ lunch.  Andy to give more details at the Sept. meeting.

 - The Yearly Fee of $25 is due at our September 25th meeting.  The yearly fee must be paid at the Sept meeting to participate in the boat cruise.

Come and celebrate with us at our June 26th meeting.  If you can't make it, have a fantastic summer and I will see you  in September

A message from Andy Westcott, our President:

Hi I want to thank you as our team who put the event together and raised a lot of money.  Everything was so organized and professional.  Guests were welcomed and made to feel appreciated.  Members seemed to enjoy themselves as well.

We have every reason to feel proud of ourselves, Andy

Hello Everyone

Our next meeting is Wednesday May 22nd at 12 noon at the Lions Club.

I'm very excited to have our most beloved Scottish executive Mima Pollock will be leading us in a Chair Yoga Exercise Class. It's so very important to try to gain back and maintain good muscles & joints that were diminished/lost after having a stroke.  As well as the caregivers who need to keep up their strength to be able to care for their loved ones.  Exercise is great for balance, flexibility, strength and positivity in mental health.  You might want to wear comfortable clothing as we are encouraging  everyone to participate in Mima's chair yoga class.

Please let me know if Yes I Can Attend or No I can't make it this month so we can order the correct number of lunches for the meeting.

We are so sorry that the construction workers are taking up so many spots, we are trying our best to find a solution to this ongoing problem.

We could discuss finding members who live in the same neighborhoods that might be able to carpool together ?

June is Stroke Month and March of Dimes Chapters have their big fundraiser Step Up for Stroke formerly Walk N Roll.

I will be sending out a separate email on the Burlington chapter fundraiser. As we did last year, we will be combining our fundraiser with our usual meeting day on Wednesday June 26th.

Hope you can make it on Wednesday May 22nd.

Please don't hesitate to contact me for any questions or concerns.
